Bridging experimental and monitoring research for visible foliar injury as bio-indicator of ozone impacts on forests

چکیده
ABSTRACT Tropospheric ozone (O 3 ) is a phytotoxic air pollutant and the O -induced visible foliar injury VFI) biomarker. A recently developed Free-air eXposure (FO X) promising facility to verify field-observed “O -like” VFIs establish flux-based threshold for VFI onset. The present study compared -like registered in southern European forest sites with actual observed FO X experiment. were evaluated by eye forests thus it was subjective. According imaging analysis, we firstly demonstrated that major parts of colors similar field X. color pallets species-specific considered advanced tool diagnosis. In addition, calculated onset at based on Phytotoxic Ozone Dose (POD 1 ), which ranged from 4.9 18.1 mmol m −2 POD . This X-derived partly explained but did not necessarily match observation several tree species forests. multivariate analysis showed decreased presence various suggested importance continuous monitoring activities further analysis.

an investigation of the impact of self monitoring on langauge teachers motivational practice and its effect on learners motivation
the central purpose of this study was to conduct a case study about the role of self monitoring in teacher’s use of motivational strategies. furthermore it focused on how these strategies affected students’ motivational behavior. although many studies have been done to investigate teachers’ motivational strategies use (cheng & d?rnyei, 2007; d?rnyei & csizer, 1998; green, 2001, guilloteaux & d?...
Visible foliar injury as a tool for the assessment of surface ozone impact on native vegetation: a case study from the Jizerské hory Mts
Surface ozone is considered to be a very phytotoxic gaseous air pollutant. Its negative impacts at both the cell and the organ level have been shown, mainly as a result of experiments. However, the demonstration of ozone negative impacts on native plants is not explicit. An assessment of ozone impact on vegetation and ecosystems using indicators based on ambient ozone concentrations is insuffic...
متن کاملImpacts of an exotic disease and vegetation change on foliar calcium cycling in Appalachian forests.
Because of the high calcium content of its foliage, Cornus florida (flowering dogwood) has been described as a calcium "pump" that draws calcium from deeper mineral soil and enriches surface soil horizons. However, over the last two decades an exotic fungal disease (dogwood anthracnose, Discula destructiva) has decimated populations of this once-common understory species. Its loss, combined wit...
متن کاملOzone air pollution effects on tree-ring growth, delta(13)C, visible foliar injury and leaf gas exchange in three ozone-sensitive woody plant species.
We assessed the effects of ambient tropospheric ozone on annual tree-ring growth, delta(13)C in the rings, leaf gas exchange and visible injury in three ozone-sensitive woody plant species in southern Switzerland. Seedlings of Populus nigra L., Viburnum lantana L. and Fraxinus excelsior L. were exposed to charcoal-filtered air (CF) and non-filtered air (NF) in open-top chambers, and to ambient ...
